History was calling and Bangladesh showed they were all ears in Grenada. Raqibul Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan shared a thrilling 106-run partnership to charge Bangladesh to their first overseas series win. On an enthralling afternoon’s play, Darren Sammy threatened to do the improbable but Raqibul lifted Bangladesh with a plucky innings before the equally aggressive Shakib joined him to clinch a euphoric win.
Bangladesh won Tuesday won their first away series with a 2-0 clean sweep of West Indies when they beat the hosts by four wickets on the fourth day of the second and final Test at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada.
Being set a 215-run target, the Tigers were led from the front by stand-in skipper Shakib Al Hasan who hit a gorgeous unbeaten 96 to take the side to 217 for six.
Raqibul was the last to go, caught and bowled by Darren Sammy for 65, leaving the side at 173-5 in 46 overs.
Earlier, West Indies having resumed the day on 192-8, added just 17 runs to their overnight total after spin duo Enamul Haque Jr and Shakib Al Hasan picked up the remaining two wickets.
David Bernard was stumped by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Enamul for 69 that included six fours and two sixes while Shakib had Tino Best caught by Mushfiqur Rahim for a 23-ball 12 to end the West Indies innings.
Bangladesh made 232 in reply to the hosts’ first inning total of 237.
